RE: 2008 F450 - Improve mileage w/Gear Vendor or Diff Swap?

How about just lifting your lead foot a little? Will not cost you anything and will save more fuel than a taller gear.:@ Can tell you are not an 08 F450 owner. LOL! Even putting around town I only get 13MPG at the BEST. Has nothing to do with a lead foot. ;) I wouldn't trade it though. I truly believe I could tow the earth into reverse rotation. >:)

RE: state stickers

We decided that we would only "color" a state if we actually "visit" it. Meaning, if we only overnight somewhere on the way to our destination, then no sticker for us. Our quick and dirty rule, 2 nights in the same CG or no sticker. This way, it means we took a day to go site seeing. Last year on our 7000 mile trip, we stayed 2 nights in TX (too big to cross in one day. LOL!) But we did not "visit" TX, so no sticker. But as everyone says, do it how YOU want to. :) It is for you anyway.

RE: White Water Rafting

My mom took my sister and I white water rafting a few years back, up in Maine. I could not believe my mom was going along. It is a blast and something everyone should experience. Well, at least everyone who wants to. LOL! I was in my late 20's at the time. My mom? Well she was 29 years old the last time I asked. LOL!

RE: 2008 Ford F-450

And the turning radius on the F450 4x4 is amazing. David Oh yes, I second that, but it is the same for the 4X2 also. Same exact front suspension, sans the drive line. (But I still kick myself for not getting the 4X4.)

RE: 2008 Ford F-450

I think 99% of my posts here on the forum are about how much I enjoy my 450. I hate the fuel mileage, but I bought it to tow and it does that without any thought. LOL! The truck has had 2 issues. The first (and most major) issue I had was an EGR cooler line splitting. Left me "stranded" while vacationing in Ft. Myers, FL. Ford got me a rental and my 5'er was already at the campground, so it was not really a big deal. The second issue it had was the cam angle sensor started to throw codes. It never actually failed. I was on vacation (in the home stretch of a 7000mile trip) in Augusta, GA. I stopped at Bobby Jones Ford and 2 hours later I was back as good as new and on my way home. Other than that... NOTHING! Truck has been fantastic. Pulled my 16K lb trailer through the mountains of Colorado (7 and 8 percent grades.) And handled a 10% down grade in Wyoming with not so much as a grunt. Fantastic truck. The whole cab coming off thing... It is supposed to be designed to have 2 technicians remove it in 30 minutes. Plus, it would have to be some pretty major work, like engine replacement.

RE: Remove ATV to sleep?

The someone who told you that is going to follow you and steal your ATV. LOL! Just kidding. Does your TH have a separate garage or no? If not, I would be uneasy about it and open ALL the windows. LOL! But the "If you can't smell it" theory works for me too.

RE: Getting rig out of yard

I have been stuck almost once for every trip out with the 5'er. It has almost become expected. I have a spot of sugar sand right before I get to the grassy area where the trailer is currently parked. This time I used plywood. Worked well. I agree with SpoiledRotten though. Just get rolling, and keep rolling until you are on solid ground.

RE: Security on WiFi

Nope, not talking about keystroke logging. Purely using sniffing technology. It happens the moment you type the password or submit the login. No sextillion years. Milliseconds! But, I digress, as this thread is going way off topic. Just know in you mind, it is possible. It is not an easy technology, therefore some script kiddie is not going to be doing it and therefore it is a rare chance someone will be attached to you doing it. But actual crackers who want your info, can get it, SSL or not. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

RE: Other than you...what other famous folks own an RV?

Willy Nelson. I used to work on the computer in his coach. :)

RE: Security on WiFi

Anytime you use an internet connection (AND I MEAN ANYTIME) it could be sniffed for your information. ... they paid me to hack their network. You would be surprised how easy it was. Detecting the information by "sniffing" is one thing - breaking the encryption is something entirely different. If you are claiming that you can easily break 128-bit SSL I frankly don't believe it. That makes me sad that you think that. I could prove it, but that would be illegal. It can be and has been done. If you really want to know how, you can find the information written in plain English on the public internet. ;) There are sniffers out there that will log and show any and all passwords. Keep in mind that an SSL connection is not a VPN connection.

RE: F-450 6.4psd Fuel Mileage

Those trucks should come with a double overdrive gear as a factory option, or a 2-speed rear axle. I agree. I have looked at a Gear Vendor overdrive, but I just don't know if I want to make the investment being I don't really drive the beast if I am not towing. I was reading elsewhere a few months ago the 6.4l Ford Diesel has a maintenance schedule for the exhaust system. Ford recommends replacing the entire exhaust system at 120,000 miles to the cost of $4,000. It is the DPF that will eventually need to be replaced, but they have already come up with a way to clean them. BTW: It is not $4k either. It is like $1200.

RE: New Dell Inspiron 1520 Typing in Slow Motion

I have Vista and it's probably the best OS I have worked on going back to Dos 1.1 No, no! DOS 3.0 rocked! LOL! I loved the DOS days. :) Seriously, if you are using Vista with no issues, you are one of the select few. But I digress, as I stated, Vista is a whole other discussion.

RE: New Dell Inspiron 1520 Typing in Slow Motion

Install a different printer (even if you don't have one) and set it as your default. (This may save you from uninstalling the current printer.) I know that I have an issue with Photoshop loading really slow when I have my network printer set as my default.

RE: 2003 Silverado D-Max battery hook up

I do not believe there is any sequence to hook up on a diesel. At least not that I have heard of. You might want to ask at dieselstop.com

RE: F-450 6.4psd Fuel Mileage

I get 11-13 running around town with no 5'er. I get 6-7 with the trailer on the highway. BUT, I have the heavy tow package with the 4.88 rear end so that is what does me the most harm.

RE: Rats! Spilled wine on laptop keyboard. :(

I have seen many drunk laptops in my years as a tech. LOL! There is usually a fairly easy way to remove the keyboard from the unit. (You may have to carefully pry off some access panels around the KB.) Then using DISTILLED water. You can give the keyboard a bath. Shake it out REALLY well when you are done and give it a couple of days to dry out. (Lay it key side down for the first 24 hours, then pick it up and give it a good shake again. The give it another 24 hours propped against something so it is standing up.) Should fix you up. Done it many times. Remember, it has to be distilled water or you could leave a sediment in there that will really muck it up. :( Your mileage may vary. ;)

RE: Cedar Creek Silverback 36L5S Question

I have the identical unit, only the four slider. ;) The dump is located on the off door side (driver's side) at the following dimentions: 12 ft: distance from landing gear to dump 5 ft: distance from dump to in between the tires 19 ft: distance from dump to back bumper 20 ft: distance from king pin to dump Enjoy your new rig. Its a great unit. We're very happy with ours. Posts like this are what makes me love this site. :)

RE: Camping in Minnesota

We stayed at Dakotah Meadows RV Park last year. It was fine. It has it's issues (the spaces are alternating so you are face to face and back to back.) We enjoyed our stay, however it was not on the lake. Though, MN is the land of 10,000 lakes, so there is a lake just about everywhere. LOL! You did not say what part of MN you were going to. Pretty big state.

RE: Are you Just bored or what???

Since most of you who overnight at Walmart always say you shop at the store before departing, consider your effect on fuel prices. More rvers overnight at Walmart to save cost -- So they shop more at Walmart -- Walmart sales increase -- Walmart imports more from China -- China must produce more -- China economy continues to grow -- More Chinese workers can afford to by automobiles -- Greater Chinese fuel demands -- Drives up world oil prices -- Higher US fuel prices -- Still more rvers overnight at Walmart, and the cycle continues.:p I hope this doesn't bring in the Walmart crowd.:R ryoung I knew it was all Wal-Marts fault! LOL! Listen, I just can't stand the high price of fuel, so I was wondering about putting Helium in my tires (to make my rig lighter) so I could drive to the local wal-mart and setup camp, get on the internet and ask here if my truck will tow a 50,000lb trailer. ;)
